The Parker House, a notable historical residence at the northeast corner of Michigan Avenue and Huron Street, holds significant value in Albion’s history.
Originally home to prominent Albion industrialist Harry B. Parker, the house later served as the official residence for five Albion College presidents.
Harry B. Parker, vice-president and general manager of the Albion Malleable Iron Company, played a crucial role in Albion’s development. The Parker Inn, named after him, was constructed in 1926, replacing the Hotel Albion and serving the city’s hotel needs for many years. Additionally, Parker donated the land for Albion’s City Hall, further cementing his legacy in the community.
The Parker House was commissioned by Gardner Lloyd, a key figure in Albion’s industrial growth. The Gardner family was instrumental in expanding the Albion Malleable Iron Company, which brought many people to the community. Rev. Washington Gardner, an original stockholder, and his descendants, including Gardner Lloyd and Tom Lloyd, continued to contribute to the company’s success and the community’s development.
This pen & ink artwork, hand-drawn with technical pens and India ink, beautifully captures the architectural elegance of The Parker House. Catalog number #179.
