The Legend

Superior Street Albion Michigan aerial view 1993 art by Maggie LaNoue
Albion, Michigan Aerial View 1993, Superior Street, #198S

Superior Street, the heart of downtown Albion, is one of Michigan’s few remaining brick-paved highways. A wealth of nineteenth-century commercial and residential architecture can be found in Albion’s National Historic District.
This view shows the exact center of Albion, on the left, where Superior Street, and Cass Streets cross. At this corner, where the East side and West side meet, the North and the South meet, is Bournelis Park and the two-story Coca-Cola mural, which is not shown in this art. The Coca-Cola mural was recently repainted during the pandemic. Before that, it was last painted in 1991.
Tree-lined streets, seventeen parks, and friendly people make Albion a popular stop in the Detroit-Chicago route. Annual events in Albion include the Festival of the Forks, Men Who Cook, Juneteenth, Fête de la Musique, Walk the Beat, Albion Labor Day Trail Walk, and Albion Aglow.
This art is part of a larger view commissioned by the Albion Recorder and sponsored by Albion businesses and residents in 1993. The art and prints were to commemorate the renovation of the brick main street in 1993 and to encourage residents and visitors alike to patronize the participating establishments.
