The Cullen Family Carousel, a centerpiece of Rivard Plaza, offers a whimsical touch to the Detroit Riverwalk.  Opened in May 2007, this handcrafted carousel was designed by sculptors Jeffrey and Lindley Briggs.

Unique to this carousel are the animals, which include local fauna such as the egret, sturgeon, and walleye, alongside mythical figures like the River Monster and River Mermaid. Its tent and finial are specially elevated and illuminated to be visible from across the Detroit River, creating a captivating spectacle, even from Canada.

The carousel honors the contributions of Matthew P. Cullen and his family, significant supporters of the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy’s capital campaign. Riders can enjoy this charming attraction for just $1, with proceeds supporting the maintenance of Detroit’s revitalized riverfront.
