Marshall – Brooks Memorial Fountain, Michigan #194

The Brooks Memorial Fountain in Marshall, Michigan, is a stunning example of Greek Revival architecture.  The drawing captures the fountain’s elegance with a painterly touch, emphasizing its classical design and the serene park surroundings.

The central structure, inspired by the “Temple of Love” in Marie Antoinette’s garden at Versailles, stands tall and proud, a testament to the town’s rich history.

The fountain’s history dates back to July 3, 1930, when it was unveiled during Marshall’s Centennial Celebration. Harold C. Brooks gifted the city with this magnificent fountain in memory of his father, C. E. Brooks. It was erected in the center of West End Park, the former site of the town’s first courthouse and later a bandstand and pool. This Greek Doric design marvel displayed ninety-six combinations of color and water effects in a ten-minute cycle, illuminated by thirty-five 1,000-watt colored projectors, projecting two tons of water per minute.

The artwork portrays the fountain’s majestic water jet, surrounded by lush greenery, adding a tranquil ambiance to the scene. The artist has skillfully used a mix of cool and warm tones to bring out the fountain’s vibrancy, particularly during its evening light show, making the scene come alive. In 1976, the community restored the fountain as part of an American Bicentennial project, ensuring its legacy for future generations.

Today, the Brooks Memorial Fountain remains a beloved landmark in Marshall, drawing visitors to admire its beauty and experience its historical charm, as beautifully depicted in this artwork.

The Brooks Memorial Fountain art is available in blue, pink and purple.
