Historically, sleighbells were not just ornamental but served practical purposes. Used as early as 800 B.C., they brought good luck, warded off disease, and alerted pedestrians to the sleigh’s approach. In the U.S., affordable buggies and sleighs were widely used, contributing to the development of better roads for year-round travel.
Created by Michigan artist Maggie LaNoue in the early 1980s, this drawing is part of a holiday and winter series. The original black and white line art was digitally restored and colorized by the artist in 2017, 35 years after its creation. This modern revival ensures its nostalgic charm continues to delight new generations, available now as high-quality note cards and prints.
