The first women’s dorm at Albion College was funded by an anonymous group of Methodist s, requesting it be named Susanna Wesley Hall.
The construction and furnishing occurred during the 1925-26 school year.
Designed in the Colonial style, the building stands as a testament to early 20th-century architectural elegance. Architect Leon Claucherty ensured the structure was fireproof and admirably arranged, blending seamlessly with the surrounding noble elms and oaks.
Between 1954 and 1956, East and West Halls were added, expanding the capacity of Wesley Hall to accommodate more students. These additions, supervised by architect Frank Dean in association with the Philadelphia firm Trautwein and Howard, included various modern amenities such as laundry facilities, kitchenettes, lounges, and study rooms.
The Dorothy McVittie Kresge Dining Hall, named after a devoted alumna and benefactor, was also part of this significant expansion.
Wesley Hall, affectionately known as “Susie” to generations of students, has housed countless freshmen over the years.
The building’s architectural charm and historical significance have made it a beloved part of Albion College’s campus.
Today, “Susie” continues to be the starting point for many Albion College students, fostering memories and friendships that last a lifetime.
